Dieting & Your Immune System

Your immune system helps guard your body from germs, viruses, and other threats. Ongoing stress can take its toll on your immune system making you more vulnerable to colds and flu. The impact stress has on your immune system was observed in medical students during a 10 year study1:

"Researchers found that the students' immunity went down every year under the simple stress of the three-day exam period. Stress can be caused by many factors, including dieting. Studies have found that dieters produced higher levels of the harmful stress hormone cortisol2. In addition to dieting being a large cause of stress, a restricted diet may further reduce the effectiveness of your immune system due to nutrient deficiencies.
